An official 'Pass' issued to William Gillanders in 1917 at Suez Canal. Handwritten on reverse "To report to Lieut Batchelar M. G. Sq. at the Real Camp Kaulaua West at 1600 (crossed out and corrected to 2220 and initialled/dated H. H. 27-7-7) on July 31st '17". Te Kuiti man William Duncan Gillanders was born in 1894. He served in Palestine after signing up when his brother was killed at Gallipoli. He was wounded, and made deaf by the wound. William died in 1958 at the age of 64 (reg. 1958/25975)
