German soldiers with captured Allied Airman and plane wreckage. Handwritten on reverse "No. 1 dropped photos. - 2 (dash meaning dropped) letter from 3+4 English prisoners requesting an airman to drop their kit at a intern place. Rilo 143 Palestine". Photo came into the possession for William D Gillander. Te Kuiti man William Duncan Gillanders was born in 1894. He served in Palestine after signing up when his brother was killed at Gallipoli. He was wounded, and made deaf by the wound. William died in 1958 at the age of 64 (reg. 1958/25975)
