SummaryDr. John Mark was born in Te Puke, New Zealand, in 1901. After winning a national scholarship, he attended Auckland Grammar School and graduated MB ChB, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, from the University of Otago in 1926. Mark went on to complete the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in London in 1930, where he held surgical posts at Guildford and Guy's Hospital before returning to New Zealand. Medical Superintendent at Tauranga Public Hospital during World War II (part-time). Established the Bay of Islands Division of the British Medical Association (BMA) in 1946, serving as its first President. In 1962, he was awarded the OBE for his services to medicine.
