Bienbenidos Amigos!!
My name is Paccha. I was born in Ecuador, South America and belong to the Inca Peoples. My mother had 12 children so I am one of a dozen eggs but most of my family are still in Ecuador. For the first 11 years of my life my family taught me all the traditions of music, dance, crafts and art.
We are a family of weavers. We sold products to live, and grew all our own food. My grandfather owned the land we lived on. Twenty people lived in the home and on this land. Uncles, aunts, grandparents mum and dad and of course the children.
As my brother was living in Germany for some time my family decided that we would try to sell some of our goods on the German markets and so I got the opportunity to travel there with my dad. We stayed for a year.I was then adopted by a South African family and taken to live in Pretoria. For two years life was good, I went to school and was very happy with my adopted family. However life in South Africa was becoming difficult and not so safe so my adopted family sent me back to Ecuador with my mum and dad until it was safer with the promise that they would send for me when things got better and they were settled.
I only stayed in Ecuador for one year until I turned 14 and I decided to travel to Europe , specifically Frankfurt to look for new markets and outlets for the family products. I purchased a three month ticket and travelled from town to town selling my products. By day I travelled to each place by train and at night I slept on the train. I just kept renewing my Visa. Finally my adoptive parents contacted me; they had moved to New Zealand and settled in Te Puke. They invited me to join them and continue my studies. However rather than continue my studies as my mother hoped, I began to look for outlets for my products here in New Zealand.
My family back in Ecuador needed me to sell their products for them. She was disappointed at first but finally agreed. I have lived in New Zealand for over 10 years now and have studied English, tourism and Maori culture. About nine years ago I began my own business. Now I make items of clothing and jewelery myself and travel throughout New Zealand selling these and the products sent to me by my family in Ecuador. I go to shows, markets and cultural events sharing my traditions, music and crafts.I hope that you will all enjoy my display of the lives and customs of my beloved people.
