Today
Today the Village is a vibrant, unique, alternative retail and events destination supporting a welcoming, cost-effective facility to house not-for-profit community groups.
Over 50 dynamic organisations are based at the Village, from local artists to photographers, to national community organisations.
History
The Village opened in 1977, originally the site of the Tauranga Museum, where thousands of visitors enjoyed their unique visit into the past.
In August 1998 the site was taken over by the Compass Community Trust and reborn as the “Community” Village.
During that time considerable refurbishment and redevelopment took place to enable the Village to become a multi-functional community facility, whilst retaining its colonial atmosphere.
It became home to many of the regions’ charitable and not-for-profit organisations and provided halls and meeting rooms for exhibitions and special events.
In 2005 Tauranga City Council took over ownership of the Village
