The Art Clinic: A Much Needed Venture
SummaryMany artists have problems promoting themselves and their work. They often find the essential marketing of themselves and what they do is an awkward and onerous task.
DescriptionIt is for this reason that two very creative Tauranga identities, architect Steven Chambers and sculptor Nic Clegg, have started a new, much needed venture named The Art Clinic.
Most artists are completely absorbed by the creative process and many of them have very little experience of running a business and don't even view their artwork and art practice as a business.
Despite their unique creative talents, many artists struggle to earn from their art because they lack the tools, knowledge and marketing experience.
Through a series of seminars and workshops Steven and Nic will provide artists with a greater understanding of how to run their art practice as a successful business.
The Art Clinic's first seminar "How To Market Art', provides a framework for artists to plan their business more strategically and teaches artists how to develop and implement a marketing plan. An important part of this seminar will show artists how to promote their work more effectively.
Architect Steven Chambers and sculptor Nic Clegg.
Steven has spent more than 20 years in creative industries. He runs a successful architecture practice, owned a design store and more recently developed The Laundromat Art Project Space (LAPS) and Arthub Studios. The ArtHub is an art space where artists can hire studio space for very reasonable rates and enjoy the company of other working artists. He has presented seminars on the subject of arts marketing to Polytechnic art students and at LAPS.
Nic is a sculptor. Prior to working full time as an artist he spent 10 years working in marketing and PR for local government agencies in the UK.
He lectures marketing on a part time basis to international business students at EDENZ College here in Tauranga. He is a qualified member of the UK's Chartered Institute of Marketing.
'How To Market Art' will be held at the Creative Tauranga Community Gallery (corner of Willow & Wharf Streets) on Monday 18th June at 6.45pm.
Making a booking for this seminar is highly recommended as numbers will be limited.
