The Matapihi railbridge was opened in 1924. Yacht Club visible just in front of railbridge. Herries Arch (1929) is just visible from side on and sits on The Strand level with the "AARDS" building on the Wharf itself. AARDS was a service car company taking people inter-city. The gardens under construction were begun in 1936 under the care of Charles Cameron (1879-1972), the Borough Gardener. To the right of frame, on the Corner of The Strand and Harington Street, is the newly built Art Deco Tauranga Hotel (1937). The photograph then is likely 1937 given how young the gardens look and the presence of the Tauranga Hotel. The original small black and white print was published as "General View, Tauranga. N.
