The 6th Battalion Group (Hauraki), 1898-2012 (Organisation)

SummaryThe 6th Battalion Group (Hauraki) was amalgamated in 2012, when six Territorial Force (TF) RNZIR battalions formed three new battalions. The 6th Hauraki Battalion was amalgamated with the 3rd Auckland and Northland Battalion in 2012 to form 3/6 Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment.

History

Auckland Rifle Volunteers Regiment

On 9 July 1898 the Battalion was formed, being called the 2nd Battalion (Hauraki)

On 1 October 1901 the name was changed to 2nd Battalion, Auckland (Hauraki) Infantry Volunteers

On 11 March 1911 the Territorial Force was formed and we became VI Hauraki Regiment

In June 1921 the name was changed to 2nd Battalion, the Auckland Regiment

On 1 June 1923 the name was changed to 1st Battalion Hauraki Regiment

On 1 April 1964 on the formation of R.N.Z.I.R. it became 6th Battalion (Hauraki) Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment

In 1999 it became the Hauraki Regiment

In 2003, it was the 6th Battalion Group (Hauraki)
