In 1970 Joy and Mrs Christine Peacocke, principal of Rotorua Girls’ High School, were awarded the Sir Woolf Fisher Travelling Fellowship to go to the United States and study ‘the educational aspects of racial integration’. In April and May 1971 they visited educational institutions in Hawaii, California, Illinois, Michigan, New York City, and Washington D.C.
