Ams 396/4/1: 90th birthday celebrations, 2006: cards from friends and relations (1 wallet)
Ams 396/4/2: Letters: written by Joy (mostly) and Ron Drayton to Mary Stock (Joy’s mother), December 1951 – January 1953. Written while Joy and Ron were overseas (England, the Netherlands, France).
Ams 396/4/3: Letters: written to Joy and Ron Drayton by Margaret Stock [Margaret Charters Stock, 1886-1976] of 141 Brudenell Road, Leeds, Yorkshire. Letter dated 18 May 1949 includes some family details [‘Dr John Stock (our Grandpa) Uncle Frederick Stock, Alfred Stock (my Father), Reginald Stock (our brother) (buried in Germany in 1st World War.) Susannah Charters Stock (Grandma), Edith Stock, Emmeline Stock (Aunts)’]. Letters mention food parcels, coal shortages, and the New Zealand cricketer Bert Sutcliffe, who visited the school where Margaret taught.
Ams 396/4/4: Letters: written to Joy Drayton by ‘Gwen’ [probably Gwen Blackburn] in Bath, Somerset, May 1947; ‘Mary’ of The Wren’s Nest, Denbighshire, Wales, September 1948 and March 1949; and ‘Auntie Edith’ – no date or address, but contains roughly sketched and incomplete Stock family tree. No formal identification of any of these women but they are all almost certainly cousins of Joy’s on her mother’s side.
Ams 396/4/5 Letters: written to Joy Drayton by Katie Koten [Kathleen Sutherland Koten], Victoria, Australia, 1995-2006. Letters refer to ‘Val’ [probably husband Vladimir Koten], Nola Millar, Lorna McPhee (as Head Girl), Sarah Gaitanos (who wrote a biography of Nola Millar), Winston Peters, Australian and New Zealand politics, the opening of Te Papa, animals, gardening, etc. An old school friend of Joy’s.

Rains (Joy’s sister Edith married Albert Rains in 1941), 2006; card from ‘Yvonne’ dated 9 July, no year; letter expressing gratitude from former student Julie Nielsen née Grigson of Whakatane, 2002; letter from Margaret Peace, former teaching colleague, 2005; assorted birthday cards, c. 2005; bereavement thanks card from the family of Agnes MacGregor Salmond, 2004.
Ams 396/4/8: Letters, notices, programmes, reports, etc., relating to Joy’s school and university days, 1920s-1930s. Includes: Sunday School, Methodist Church, Kilbirnie Primary School, Wellington East Girls’ College, Victoria University College and its debating club, correspondence relating to scholarships and prizes. Also small collection of badges and medals (form captain, games captain, Sunday School, etc.)
