Wednesday 3rd April 1918
"Left Brocton for Hornchurch. Nearly tipped out of red cross car going at 60 miles per hour round corner. First experience of underground trains in London. Got to Hornchurch at 4:30 pm.

Saturday 6th Bought black buttons & envelopes & reel of cotton & post cards. Wrote to mother & sent PC to May & two to Edie. Met [Bill] Oliver from Tauranga."
