Date1929-1930Reference NumberPhoto 11-088DescriptionOmanawa Falls(?), Dec 1929 or Jan 1930.
From an album of photos taken by George James Strickett, engineer, of Ōtāhuhu, who was visiting relations in Tauranga over the summer of 1929-1930. He rode his 1927 AJS motorbike on fascined roads.
Observant users have noticed that the pictured waterfall seems too tall to be Omanawa. They suggest another possibility is the much higher Wairere, accessible by car and walking track from Te Aroha and Matamata. Its appearance varies with the volume of water in the Stream.
It would have been quite a journey on a motorbike. Unfortunately we can't review the album's labelling - it was lent for scanning - so other observations or suggestions are welcome.
