They say everyone has a book inside them, and with the development of selfpublishing the technology is now there to get it out. However, there are many hurdles to getting a good quality product into the market place._x000D_

Karolyn Timarkos knows this from firsthand experience. Although she spent months researching selfpublishing, she still lost over $2000 by making a couple of wrong decisions. On May 14, she is delivering a talk at the Tauranga Library that will help other aspiring authors avoid the same fate._x000D_

The biggest hurdle for firsttime authors these days is finding the information they need. Not because there isn”t a lot of it, but because there is far too much of it. Google offers up over 70 million hits on “selfpublishing”, while Amazon stocks over 6000 titles on the topic._x000D_

“These books all have one thing in common … they are big, 300 or 400 pages long, or more. In one book they try to cover everything anyone could ever hope to know about every aspect of any book they could ever want to publish. When you”re starting out, you just want to know the fundamentals,” Karolyn says._x000D_

Her own guide to selfpublishing, My Artist is a Fruit Loop, distils that information down to the very basics, covering the selfpublishing process, where to find more detailed information if you need it, and where to find help at each stage. “I stick to the old KISS principle: Keep It Short and Simple.”_x000D_

Karolyn”s first selfpublished YA scifi / fantasy novel, Keeper of the Atlas (book 1 of The Atlas Chronicles®, has recently been picked up by South Pacific Books for distribution throughout New Zealand. It has been updated and will be rereleased in July, together with the second book in the series Twin Heirs of the Prophecy._x000D_
