The Blomquists (person(s))

SummaryCarolina Anderson (1856-1912) and Johannes (John) Blomquist (1850-1929) were both born in Sweden, however, it was in Parkvale, east of Carterton in New Zealand, where they met and married.

In 1903, they moved and settled permanently in Tauranga. They had eight children who were:

* Anne Harriette (1876-1913). Married James Ennis Hulls (1905) then Mr Denyer
* Neil Frederick (Fred) Blomquist (1878-1948)
* Bernst Eborherst (1881-1939)
* Eva Elizabeth (1883-1958). Married Tommy Thomson
* Norman Anson (1885-1949). Married Jessie Elizabeth Johnston
* Henriette Valerie (1888-1970)
* Nellie Bernice (1890-1958). Married William Tanner
* John (Len) Leonard (1895-1966). Married Phyllis London

Several Blomquist children became prominent community leaders and sons Neil and Norman created the Tauranga Co-operative Dairy Association on the corner of 11th Avenue and Devonport Road.

Eva Blomquist married Tommy Thomson and they set up a bakery in Katikati. Their descendants owned the popular Greerton bakery under the name Blomquist Artisan Bakery until 2020. It still operates under this name.

Johannes was profoundly deaf. He was a also a very accomplished in horticulture and in 1922, donated hedging plants to the Tauranga District High School.
