SummaryTaiparirua, originally built in 1883 by James Alexander Mann, is one of Tauranga’s oldest homesteads, located between Eighth and Ninth Avenue. Mann, an influential merchant in Tauranga, sold the property in 1896 to Canon William Goodyear, an English missionary. Goodyear named the property "Taiparirua" after the high land it occupies. Later owners included solicitor Bruce Beale, Mr Every, a former tea plantation manager, and Dr H.B. Coates Milsom, an orthopaedic surgeon. The solid kauri house featured original details such as its 1883 doorbell and knocker, alongside additions like a church wing and a veranda with sweeping harbour views.SourcesHistoric Home up for aucton: Bay of Plenty Times, 6 June 1997Māori Place Names - Tauranga, Collected by E.L.
