The students, aged between 15 and 18, visited the orchards as part of a three-day geography field trip to help them with revision for School Certificate examinations. The group had also visited Tūrangi, Taupō, Wairākei, Whakamaru and Tokoroa, and were to visit Kinleith on their way back to Waiouru.
