Date25 October 1974Reference Numberphoto gcc-26260DescriptionThe Te Awanui waka, christened the Bay of Plenty Harbour Board's new roll-on-roll-off link span yesterday when it was hauled on to dry land after a trip across the harbour under tow. The canoe is being featured at the Tauranga Rock and Mineral Club's annual exhibition in the Mount Maunganui sports stadium. It will be placed alongside a piece of moon-rock lent to the club by the National Museum. Docking at the link span proved a little tricky in the fresh breeze and tidal rip but with the concerted effort of many hands the canoe was finally dragged out of the water.
