Letter to the Editor: Can you inform me how many passengers is the steam launch Result entitled to carry? On New Year's Day she took over 120 from the wharf to Maungatapu. I am told it is not safe for her to carry more than 50, and that had there been a sudden squall or panic she would have upset. Fortunately this dangerous experiment of trying how many she could carry could not be completed on the return journey as the Captain very sensibly ran her on a sand bank. I am etc. Passenger.
The proper course for our correspondent is to inform the police, and get them to take proceedings if the Result was carrying more passengers than she was legally entitled to carry. Editor. Tauranga Advertiser, 6 July 1887.

Leaner Beacon. "Hit by one of the Northern Steamship Company ketches, Captain Kennedy. It was just shored up so the light was vertical. Jack Denniston built the Beacon on Stoney Point before World War I, and this was built after that. Was there when Bill was yacht racing round around 1922 because it was used as a mark."
