The Anglican Minister was ordained to the diaconate by the Bishop of Waikato, the Rt. Rev. Paul Reeves. The service was held on the Otukawa (Tahoutangi) Marae at Te Puke and the Bishop of Aotearoa, the Rt. Rev. Manu Bennett took part in the second section of the service. Mr. Wihapi is a direct descendant of the occupants of the Arawa canoe which landed at Maketū.
