SummarySimple structure once known as the Kennedy House and owned by the Battle at Pukehinahina veteran Dennis Kennedy. Dennis settled down in Gate Pa immediately after the battle so this site may have been built on as early as the 1860s. In 1887 the Kennedy house burned down so this particular building is likely built that year. In 1887 a Post Box was attached to a tree outside the residence and the Bay of Plenty Times referring to this box on "Kennedy's Corner". It was pulled down in the 1960s and replaced with a motel. In June 1964 a simple sketch was made and it was noted as being empty and broken down. It was modernised by a Mr Ward in the late 1930s. The sketch artist recalled that their father "used to collect Mrs Wallice from here when she stayed with her mother Mrs Kennedy - this would have been about 52 - 3 years ago".
