Clarke, Charles Augustus, 1866-1937 (Person)
Education: At 'the old Tauranga School at Quarter Acres'.
Rugby: Represented Tauranga under Joe Warbrick's captaincy. He then captained Rotorua representative teams, and was involved later as an executive official. President and life-member of Rotorua Rugby Sub-Union.
Organisations: Arawa Domain Board, foundation member; Arawa Domain Trustees, first chairperson; Ohinemutū Swimming Club; Rotorua Athletic Club; Rotorua Basketball Club; Rotorua Brass Band, founding member and on the band committee; Rotorua Building Society; Rotorua Bowling Club; Rotorua Orphans' Club; Rotorua Primary School Board, including secretary-treasurer for 27 years and chair for 8 years; Rotorua Racing Club.
Tarawera Eruption 1886: Augustus was an eye-witness and "took an active part in the work of rescue and rehabilitation which followed the disaster'.
