Established sometime in the 1920s on Chadwick Road (Greerton). Operated until 1966 when it was replaced by the larger Rangiuru Abattoir. Built by Alfred Richard (Alf) Cornes and Mary Ann (née Earl) on land owned by William Earl. Away from the buildings the land was swamp. Councillor Barney Newsham proposed these 90 acres be drained and made productive to support the abattoir in 1933.
