SummaryMary Chappell (Mrs J. B. Chappell) was a Tauranga registered midwife and private-hospital proprietor active from the late 1890s to 1920: she opened a “Nursing and Convalescent Home” at Topcroft in August 1899; in 1908 she moved to a new house built by her husband on the east side of Cameron Road near the corner with Eighth Avenue and between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, naming it The Palms. Mary and Joseph arrived in Tauranga on the Lady Jocelyn. She moved to Auckland in 1920 and died 1925. Her daughter E.J.W.
