SummaryA large late-19th century timber villa built of kauri, with a complex hipped-and-gabled roof, pressed zinc ceilings, and ornamental wrought-iron verandahs. The house stood within a spacious corner section, as seen in aerial photographs from 1959 and 1975.
It was first occupied by John Bull and family in the 1890s, later served as a long-term private residence, and by the late 1960s became the Kiwi Guest House. Fire damage in the mid-1970s led to its demolition in 1975, with salvaged materials auctioned to benefit the Salvation Army. Some ironwork was acquired by Tauranga Museum. The section was bought by the Salvation Army.SourcesOld house is coming down » BOPT Times 1975, 29 July (and correction July 30)Guest house finally gone » BOP Times 1975, August 18
