SummaryAn English-born farmer who settled in Tauranga during the 1890s. Second son of S. B. V. Asser of Windlesham Court, Surrey. By 1893 he was listed in the Auckland Directory as a farmer and was advertising stock locally, including “six fine dairy cows” in the Bay of Plenty Times (23 October 1893). Held land in Ōtūmoetai, his property running up to the main Ōtūmoetai Road, neighbouring the Butcher and Brabant families.
Married Mary Isabel Wrigley (18 February 1903), daughter of the pioneer Thomas Wrigley, at Holy Trinity Church, Tauranga. The marriage was widely reported, with the couple honeymooning in Rotorua before proceeding to reside at Ōhaupō, described at the time as their permanent home.
By 1908 Asser had purchased the Judea Road property that onced belonged to John Roberts, following the death of Roberts’ wife.
Percy Asser died suddenly at his home in Orakei Road, Remuera, Auckland, on 14 September 1931, aged 63.
