SummaryBorn in 1893 in Hamilton, Coubrough was raised at Waitekauri near Waihi, as his father was manager of the battery at Golden Cross Mine. The family moved to Matamata when his father became manager of the Firth Estate.
He served with the Waikato Mounted Rifles, winning the Bygrave Cup for shooting, three years in a row.

He married Constance Merrington in 1922.
They lived at the lower Kaimai. He worked on clearing his own farm, and also on the McLaren Falls spillway and dam.
