SummaryBorn in Manchester in 1892, Covell arrived in New Zealand aged 17 with his father. A carpenter, builder, orchardist and farmer. He built the F.N. Christian's garage in Devonport Road near Elizabeth Street. He was a member of the Tauranga Operatic Society.
In 1938, he acquired a 50 acre block of land at Pyes Pa for his service in WWI. The land later became the site of the Tauranga crematorium.
He married Sylvia Atkinson McFadgen in 1923.
He died on 30 July 1977, survived by three of his five children.
