SummaryMcElhinney was a New Zealand career postmaster whose service spanned more than forty years. He began as a message boy in Edendale, Southland in 1936, later qualifying as a telegraphist in Christchurch (1939). After early work at Waimate, he served during the Second World War in the Royal Navy (on loan from the RNZN), mainly in the Mediterranean and Atlantic convoys.
