With a 15 year tenure as a Mount Maunganui Borough Councillor, Isa supported the establishment of the Mount Maunganui Public Library.
She was appointed Honorary Ranger to the Mount Maunganui Domain Board and the Mount Maunganui Borough Council in 1960.
She served as a Museum Board member.

She was married to Harry Gilchrist in 1939 and they had five children.
