SummaryBorn in County Louth, Ireland in 1840, William Kelly arrived in New Zealand in 1863 and lived in Auckland, Opotiki, Maketu, Oropi and Te Puna.
In 1868 he was the Captain of the Bay of Plenty (Opotiki) Cavalry. He was one of the first Members of the House of Representatives, representing East Coast. In 1897 he was elected to the Legislative Council and remained on it until his death in 1907.
