SummaryAmelia was born in Mauriceville in the Wairarapa in 1890. She arrived in Tauranga in 1903 with her family, the Youngsons. Their farm property at Ōtūmoetai was on the site of the Cherrywood shopping centre. She moved into 96 Fraser Street in 1915, where she continued to live for 78 years. The house was one of six built as Labour Department worker's dwellings. They kept a horse and cows. Her sons' Phillips Bros Garage is on the subdivided property. She married William T. Phillips in 1915. He ran a Scottish dancing class where they first met. He worked at Guinness Brothers and as a builder at the Hospital. She was widowed with four young children in 1925.
