SummaryBuilt about 1938 on the former Hammond's Timber Yard next to Bagley Drapers. Hammond's Timber Yard ran from Willow Street through to The Strand and fronted 126 and 128 Willow Street.
"Stripped Classical" is a very plain, simplified classical style. Visually wide rather than tal, across the front of the building are long horizontal bands that run from one side to the other, giving it a strong sense of order and balance. Near the top is a narrow, evenly patterned strip, and a wider matching band runs along the bottom of the front wall. These bands help tie the whole façade together. They're interrupted at six points by simple rectangular panels. Each of these sits directly above a visible iron support that helps hold up the roofed verandah over the footpath, which projects out from the building rather than being supported from the ground, allowing an uninterrupted pedestrian frontage along the street.
