1978:
- Te Puke Golf Club Queen's Birthday Open Tournament won by John Ward of Tauranga with a 214 for three rounds. Former Club member Peter Wells had best round of 69. Development of new course begins; bulldozers move in on 126 acres. Original block of George Vesey Stewart settlement. Steele's farm. Old course can be used for another 12 months. Reprieve.
