SummaryOn 19 April 1948, the National Airways Corporation Lockheed 10A Electra ZK-AGJ, "Kahu", was forced down on the shores of Tauranga Harbour while approaching Tauranga Aerodrome. The aircraft, carrying ten passengers on a scheduled flight from Auckland to Gisborne, encountered a down-draught on approach, struck the water, and came to rest on the beach. No injuries were reported. The aircraft was later towed from the beach to the aerodrome but was subsequently written off and reduced to spares.
