SummaryBorn 20 February 1907 at Newbiggin, Orkney Islands, Scotland, son of Peter and Janet Baikie; immigrated to New Zealand with his parents and siblings in 1907 and raised in Tauranga. A baker at Stratford, Tauranga, Thames and Te Puke, he married Winnie Grierson in 1930, trained as an aviator with Captain Les Brake, first flew solo in 1932, gained his Certificate of Efficiency in 1933, and owned Simmonds Spartan ZK-ABL.
