Kauri Gothic church built 1884. Timber-panelled interior; stained-glass windows commemorating early settlers. The church was built by William John Gray, using pit-sawn kauri rafted from Auckland to Diggelmann’s wharf and carted to the site by dray. Alexander “Sandy” Turner gave land for the church. The foundation stone was laid in April 1883 by Bishop William Garden Cowie.
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Category 2 historic place, List No. 5413, entered 20 February 1992. Also listed by Western Bay of Plenty District Council as Category A built heritage; described as the first Anglican church built in Katikati.
