A Ngāti Manawa woman and granddaughter of rangatira Peraniko Tahawai. She married William Henry (“Willie”) Bird and had three children: William Henry (“Billie”), Joseph and Rangiora. At Murupara she managed the family accommodation house, practised as a midwife and raised children from Māori and Pākehā families.
