Chemist services on the Strand, Tauranga, 1875-1960

SummaryCommercial premises on The Strand, Tauranga, at the corner of Wharf Street, between Wharf and Hamilton Streets. The building is associated with a long-running chemist and pharmacy business that changed hands several times. H. C. Hoyte opened a chemist's shop on The Strand on 1 December 1875 and sold the business to Charles Spencer in 1879. Spencer was succeeded by R. J. Allely about 1895, followed by A. J. Mirrielees in 1910 and L. E. Woods in 1929. Woods continued operating the pharmacy from The Strand until 1960, when the business moved to Grey Street.
