Hinekura Wharekai (Opening)

SummaryHinekura, a wharekai situated at Tūtereinga marae,Te Puna and was opened with a grand celebration by its people of Pirirakau and the rest of Tauranga Moana whānui on 6th October 1973.

The opening was initiated and blessed by the Kiingitanga with Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu (1931–2006) who opened its doors for the first time. Hinekura was the wife of Tutereinga, a tupuna to which all Ngāti Ranginui hapū can claim descent.
