SummarySon of William Hughes Brabant and Emilia Stainforth, born London, educated privately in Sussex and emigrated to New Zealand (Cashmere) 1863. Served in the latter part of the New Zealand Wars, farmed at Waipa and later at Ōtūmoetai, Tauranga, where his properties were known as “Woodhill,” and supplied milk to an early local butter and cheese factory. Married Margaret Mary Josephine Graham (1849–1900) at Raglan in 1869; they had eleven children. Had Maungawhare", originally known as "Woodhill," built in 1875. Brabant was chairman of the Tauranga Horticultural Society, a foundation member of the Tauranga Club, a Freemason, and Justice of the Peace from 1896.
