Royalist' from the air, 1960

Date7 April 1960Reference NumberPhoto gcb-005DescriptionHMNZS Royalist heading past Mauao and out of .... berthed at Mount Maunganui Wharf on the afternoon of 5 April 1960. Captain Hugh David Stevenson (1918-1998) visited a combined body of officials at the Harbour Board offices that afternoon, which included Mayor’s Arthur Reginald Harris (Mount Maunganui), David Sceptre Mitchell (Tauranga), Eddie Herbert Raymond (Te Puke), Neil Buchanan Hunt (Chairman of the Harbour Board) and Councillors. That evening the officers attended a cocktail party hosted by the Officers’ Club and Navy League. On 6 April, 50 guests attended cocktails on board the cruiser and the Captain hosted a dinner for dignitaries and their partners.
