Date2015DescriptionIn 2015 John Foster came in to the Tauranga City Libraries to remember his great grandfather John McLaren Lett, as part of the Threads of Memory project. He brought in the family's "Dead Man's Penny". This Memorial Plaque was issued after World War I (19141918) to the nextofkin of all British and Empire service personnel who were killed as a result of the war. The bronze plaques became known as the "Dead Man”s Penny", because of the similarity in appearance to the somewhat smaller penny coin. Photo: Debbie McCauley.
