Date1991DescriptionNoel Mitchel from Queen's University in Northern Ireland with his wife Barbara during a visit to Katikati in April 1991. Noel had visited Katikati in 1975 for the anniversary and reenactment of the settlers” arrival one hundred years previously and met Arthur J. Gray the author of “An Ulster Plantation”. Noel was delighted to consent to an interview with a reporter from the local paper and talk about the historic value of “Athenree” and to compare it with Balance House in Antrim as he was a member of the “Ulster Trust” who administer the property and the trust had restored Balance House from a virtual ruin. For many years Noel returned to Katikati almost annually, bringing tour groups of his old university contemporaries and always giving great publicity to the Homestead and the whole history of the early settlement.
