Date2017DescriptionTauranga Arts Festival was officially opened by a dawn chorus, Takiri Ko Te Ata, on the morning on 18 October 2017. A waiata was sung to the sun rising across the sea in celebration of our people, place and our artists. Local composer Teraania OrmsbyTeki and celebrated performer Ria Hall were commissioned to create a special waiata to be learned by school and adult choirs. Tākiri Ko Te Ata is a celebration of the power of music to bring people together. This photograph by Lee Switzer is of Ria Hall.
