He was a member of the Te Puke Town Board and Te Puke Borough Council and served as mayor from 1936 to 1939. He was also a member of the Tauranga Acclimatisation Society, Tauranga Racing Club, Te Puke Agricultural and Pastoral Association and Te Puke Rugby Union.
