Buildings noted with accompanying file from left to right include the Anglican Church (shoreline at 1/2 way point), "Two storied hotel" (on shoreline), "Old Hotel" (on hillside), "Ringers Store" (shoreline with dark and light roof), "Billiard Hall" (shoreline 1/3 way in from right, tall square shape) and "Edward Prentis House" (mid way up hillside just above Billiard Hall). From 1867-1874 the two storied hotel was known as the "Travellers Rest", after which it became the "Telegraph Hotel". During the last decade of its licenced life (1910-1920) it was just known as the Maketū Hotel. On the 13 June 1921 Edward Prentis applied unsuccessfully for a licence to operate from the hotel (BOP Times). The hotel built of heart kauri was in very bad condition and by 1929 Mrs Frances Kenny of Te Awamutu who used to stay there as a child, reported that the building had gone.FormatPrintPhysical Descriptionblack and white print
