Likely taken in the early 1920s though possible as early as 1918. The cemetery was the subject of much complaint about it's neglect, including concern about sea erosion of the hill side. In 1918 and 1922 the government funded renovations that include the visible concrete headstone slabs which replaced the rotting wooden headboards. The photo also appears to have been taken before the railway was put through in 1924. Original print from the estate of Jeanie Lewis and donated to Tauranga City Libraries by David Bosomworth in 2012.
