Mount Maunganui Primary School Centenary

SummaryOn October 18 and 19 2013, Mount Maunganui Primary School celebrated 100 years since first opening in 1913.
DescriptionA weekend-long, school-wide birthday party was held involving all current students, as well as some past pupils and teachers.

This was followed by wine and cheese in the school hall which displayed photos through the eras, artefacts and other reminders of all the good times at Mount Primary.

Saturday began mid-morning and saw the school open for those attending to have a look through the classrooms and gather to reminisce about life at Mount Primary throughout the last 100 years.

Interviews
On the Centenary Weekend, a collection of interviews with past students and staff were recorded. These included:

Kenneth Millar, a student at two different occasions between 1945 - 1951

Anne O'Brien nee Roberts, a student who then returned to the school to teach

Marion Chandler nee McNaughton, a student who read a transcript of the speech she gave at the Centenary dinner

In 1957, Marion's Standard 4 class went to visit her parents' farm

In 1958, Marion's Form 1 class went on a camping trip to Waihi Beach

Nan Tiddy, former teacher

Pam Gibbs, former student

Maurice Woodcraft, former student

Barbara Banks, former student
