SummaryA Country Calendar’ is the latest exhibition at Tauranga's Harrisons Gallery and is inspired by the ever popular television series 'Country Calendar'. Main Body
The contributing artists, some of whom have big reputations in New Zealand and overseas, have drawn their inspiration from our rich rural surroundings and those who work the land.
This Parcel of Land' by Bruce Luxford.
It's great to be able to feature works, with Harrison Gallery's permission, by Wellington painter Bruce Luxford in this blog.
It's the first time I've seen Bruce's work and it's always refreshing to see paintings that actually say something, provoke thought and offer more than decoration.
His unusual, beautifully executed painting 'This Parcel of Land' is very topical at a time when land in New Zealand is still being sold to foreign buyers.
New Zealanders generally have a strong identification with the land and most urban dwellers are very interested in seeing images about good honest hardworking kiwis in rural locations around their country.
This exhibition will showcase 25 artworks from nine artists who all have a strong appreciation of country life and bring us insightful observations of matters rural.
'Obey the Signs' by Bruce Luxford'
Harrisons is once again fortunate to have several artworks by nationally acclaimed artist Michael Ponder.
Other participating artists include Barry Ross Smith, Murray Ayson, Dean Corbett, Bruce Luxford, Audrey Garret, Nigel Wilson, Russell Jackson, Wayne Vickers, Marietta and Talulah Belle.
‘A Country Calendar’will be on show at Harrisons Gallery, 106 Eleventh Avenue, Tauranga until Saturday 21st July, 2012.
