Living in Harmony- Diwali, Festival of Lights, TRMC event
SummaryTauranga Regional Multicultural Council Event, 17 November 2012 at Historic Village Hall, 17th Ave, Tauranga Main Body
I would like to thank all of you who came to our last Living in Harmony evening on to celebrate the Diwali festival of Lights.
And what a great attendance we had! The evening was officially opened by our special guests Mayor Stuart Crosby and MP Simon Brigdes, who came with his wife and baby. Traditional welcome was performed by Smita.
The village hall was full and a very talented group of children from the Fairhaven School in Te Puke beautifully performed a selection of Indian dances. Rupal Mehta performed one of her traditonal dances, and two very enthusiastic young boys also performed a dance.
We have learnt about henna and Rangoli art, and of course everybody loved the food, and what tasty variety there was!!
I would like to thank everybody who helped to organized the event – our committee and especially Smita Biswas, our office coordinator Janet Smith, and also our sponsor Choice Food and Spices, Cameron Road who supplied us with some traditional Indian sweets for the occasion.
Also thank you to Sanjh, who provided beautiful items from her shops Jagviz in Piccadilly Arcade and Kiwi Selection in Greerton to decorate the hall and everyone else who supplied the Christmas lights.
